Partnership between 3rdKind and KDDI
Tokyo – July 2, 2012 – 3rdKind Inc. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director & CEO: Taro Hosotani; Representative Director & COO: Frederic Nouel; hereinafter referred to as 3rdKind) and KDDI Corporation (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Takashi Tanaka; hereinafter referred to as KDDI) announce today a partnership for co-publishing foreign smartphone apps in the Japanese Market on the KDDI “au Smart Pass” service.
Based in Tokyo, 3rdKind provides a way for foreign companies to maximize sales of their games in Japan by providing marketing, localization, development and “culturization” support. By partnering with KDDI, 3rdKind further secures its strategic position in the Japanese market, making it ideally placed to introduce global content to the Japanese market. 3rdKind is able to provide key insights and opportunities for overseas companies looking to increase revenue in the lucrative Japanese market.
For KDDI the partnership with 3rdKind ensures that its au Smart Pass service is affluent with high quality games developed by companies from around the world.
Furthermore, the KDDI 3rdKind partnership aims to bring the best games for both new and seasoned smartphone users in order to provide the best environment for entertainment.
KDDI invests in promising startup companies in Japan and overseas with the goal of bringing new products or services through “KDDI ∞ Labo”, a startup incubation program currently inviting a second round of applications, and through the “KDDI Open Innovation Fund”.
Starting July 2nd, the partnership will release its first games, Japanese versions of “Cross Fingers” and “Panic Flight” on the KDDI au Smart Pass service. From there, one to two games are expected to be released every month.

About “au Smart Pass”
The “au Smart Pass” is an app subscription service for KDDI’s Android users. For a monthly fee of 390 yen/US$4.70, the service gives unlimited access to more than 500 applications handpicked by the carrier. All of these apps are free to download. The service has reached more than 1 million users since launching in March 2012.
